The iconic 1990s Los Angeles nightclub, The Roxbury, is making a comeback with a modern twist in San Diego’s vibrant Gaslamp Quarter. Originally a hotspot on the Sunset Strip frequented by stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Naomi Campbell, the nightclub will relaunch on September 13, 2025, under the leadership of original owner Elie Samaha and new partner Jim Valdez, founder of Cowboy Cantina.
The newly imagined venue will blend retro nostalgia with modern luxury, featuring floor-to-ceiling LED walls, a state-of-the-art sound system, VIP lounges, and world-class DJs. Designed to evoke the energy and glamour of its original version, the club emphasizes immersive entertainment and cutting-edge technology. Samaha and Valdez see San Diego as the perfect launchpad, with future expansion plans for Los Angeles and New York City.
The Roxbury originally operated from 1991 to 1996 and became a symbol of ’90s nightlife. It was the inspiration for Madonna’s “Deeper and Deeper” music video and the iconic “Saturday Night Live” skit and subsequent movie “A Night at the Roxbury.” The reopening aims to recapture the magic of the past while introducing a new generation to its legendary atmosphere.
